Presentation Titles:

1. Engineering Examples: Energy-Efficient Controls for Reducing Vehicular Vibrations

Controls become necessity for modern vehicles. Exploring energy-saving control

solutions for vehicle mass production truly poses a great challenge for engineers.

Two major perspectives are performance and energy consumption for energy

efficiency vehicles. Based on a long-decade industry experience, this talk focuses on

developing the energy efficient control technologies to meet the criteria of system

robustness and performance consistency for the ground vehicle applications. The

design examples involve developing superior vibration-mitigation control

technologies from suspension to driveline systems for ground vehicles, for example,

developing adaptation of suspension skyhook controls with MR dampers, applying

semi-active clutch control to significantly reduce driveline torsional vibrations for

commercial vehicles, and using energy harvesting motor control to smooth the

engine shutdown for HEV. Overall this talk elaborate engineering development of

practical controls to deal with ubiquitous vehicular vibration issues from the vehicle

design perspective.

2. Eaton Hybrid Systems & Electrification for Clean Energy Vehicles

Since the world is becoming more serious concern about global warming, it is our

responsibility as a citizen on the earth to save energy and preserve the living

environment while modernizing the world and our life. Clean energy and energyefficient

vehicle technology are becoming the critical and essential part of green

transportation systems. How can we use the least energy consumption to deliver the

best vehicle performance of such as fuel economy, comfort and safety? This is a

very challenging problem for the vehicle industry –a multi-dimensional engineering

issue needs an interdisciplinary engineering solution. This presentation focuses on

some Eaton electrification technologies and the latest efforts specifically for the

Chinese EV market. Not only can these technologies significantly improve the energy

utilization for the commercial vehicles, but also promote integration capability and

performance of the EV systems to the next level. Beyond these development

showcases, the open-end discussion will talk about both the near-future and longterm

industrial efforts on the energy efficient technology for vehicle applications.
